Edzani Rhodah Ramudzuli is an industrial engineering student from Vaal University of Technology. She is set to graduate for her B-Tech in 2015 and also complete a minor in Six Sigma. She is a goal driven young lady, passionate about engineering and strongly believes that self-confidence, love for people and patience can really create an engineer with a difference!
When asked about what drew her to engineering, she said ‘’being able to escape from the worlds I created”. She also cited her twin brother as one of her major influence. ‘’ Maths & Science was a challenge for me, my twin brother was an A learner, I never understood why because I worked harder than him. He told me to focus more on what I can’t do than what I can; he helped me through Maths & Science. This changed my whole life;I regained my confidence”, she said. Shedecided to enter Eskom Expo for Young Scientist competition, with the help of the University of Venda. She managed to prepare a science project which took her as far as national finals which was held in the University of Pretoria and was later awarded a bursary to study towards any engineering profession of her choice.
Throughout the whole process, she realized she has so much potential in her and the sky is never the limit. She went on to study industrial engineering in a University of Technology. She knew this was the right field for hersince it consists of many diverse scientific disciplines thatintegrate withvarious fields of study from sciences, engineering and management. After her 3rd year, she joined SAWomEngas a mentor in Limpopo Province and was given a chance to be a delegate to the SAWomEngConference which was held in Cape Town in 2013. “The conference was a life changing experience. I realised that passion is everything; if you have it, you don’t necessarily need an alarm to wake up, it will drive you.”
“The river is always flowing, no matter what goes on around you;take advantage of your opportunities, ambitions, &challenges. There is no substitute for excellence, if you press a snooze button you will definitely loose”, she said.
