What do you think is the role of a mentor: The role of a mentor is to guide one who is less experienced by building trust and modelling positive behaviours. In order to be effective, the mentor understands that his or her role is to be dependable, engaged, authentic, and tuned into the needs of the ones he/she is mentoring.
Why do you want to be a GirlEng mentor: I have always had a great passion for young people and especially young women. This opens a platform for me to engage with them while guiding them to achieving their goals. As we are aware, the engineering field is very challenging and it's even worse for women as it is male dominated. Mentoring these young women will be a way of saying, "Yes it's tough out there but we are tougher!"...not trying to be equal to our male counterparts but by excelling in whatever we do and writing a new chapter in engineering! It's also an opportunity for me to give back. I have been supported and mentored by a number of people and it's high time I did the same.
Words to live by: Do not be anxious about anything...instead pray about everything!
