SAWomEng invests in their Leaders

by Hema Vallabh on Wednesday, Mar 24th, 2010

Sarah Kiggundu (SAWomEng@network), Traci Reddy (SAWomEng Conference) and Hema Vallabh (GirlEng) attended the Women in Motion workshops which were held in Johannesburg (12 March 2010) and Cape Town (19 March 2010).

The Women in Motion Workshop were hosted by CEO Magazine (Celebrating Excellence in Organisations) and focuses on developing the female leaders of tomorrow. CEO magazine says, “Women in Motion is a learning experience specifically designed for young women who are passionate about developing themselves. They are given the opportunity to network with women leaders who have years of knowledge and experience.”

Each event was attended by approximately 50 young, high potential women who are hailed as the leaders of tomorrow. The activities for the day were largely centred on mentorship, networking and personal development.

The day started off with motivational talks and personality profiling by prominent speakers such as Yvonne Finch (Yvonne Finch Consulting) and Monita Gutuza (Inspiring Purpose). Delegates were then given the opportunity to meet their mentors who included past recipients of SA’s Most Influential Women of the Year awards. Delegates were provided the opportunity to tap into the minds of these influential leaders, and other captains of industry, to learn about their secrets of success.

One of the highlights of the event was the speed networking activity, during which the delegates were able to learn more about each other. It is opportunities such as these that often lead to long-lasting relationships and network building; with women from different professional backgrounds.

One of the key lessons learned, was the importance of investing in yourself as an individual, pursuing your dreams whole-heartedly; the importance of happiness and finding balance in your life. The day was then wrapped up with talks on personal- and business goal setting, tips on personal presentation and improving your business skills in general.

Ultimately, it was an absolutely fantastic experience and once again shows SAWomEng’s commitment to developing its people as the Leaders of Tomorrow!!
